Our Weight Loss Protocols
Meal
Replacement Program—Lose
40-50 pounds in 12 weeks
A meal
replacement program (MRP) is a doctor-supervised diet that uses commercially prepared formulas to promote
rapid weight loss in patients that are overweight. These formulas, (liquid
shakes, bars, etc.) replace all food intake for several weeks or months.
Meal replacement
formulas need to contain appropriate levels of vitamins and micronutrients to
ensure that patients meet their nutritional requirements.
Our MRP formulas are
NOT the same as the meal
replacements you can find at grocery stores or pharmacies, which are only meant
to substitute for one meal a day.
The
MRP is designed for
people at least 18 years of age with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with
other illnesses (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.)
This is the most aggressive medically supervised program available and patients
must be seen weekly.
Our program has three phases:
Weight
loss phase - In addition to losing weight, Weight Loss and Nutrition
Center will also work with you
on comprehensive behavior modification. This is designed to:
- Motivate you
to follow the prescribed diet
- Increase your overall nutritional
knowledge
- Increase daily activity/exercise
- Change your relationship with
food
- Modify your lifestyle
- Decrease your stress level
- Improve your self-esteem
- Aid in
teaching you how to control your environment
During the weight loss phase, our patients
typically lose about 3 to 4 pounds per week.
Re-feeding Phase—This
phase focuses on establishing a
healthy relationship with food, while continuing work on the areas outlined
above. As patients in the MRP program approach their goal weight (within 5 to
15 pounds), everyday foods are gradually reintroduced into the diet under Dr.
Stage's supervision as you continue your weight loss.
Based on the patients individual needs, some may
need to move to the re-feeding phase prior to approaching their goal. The skills
you will have learned will have the greatest impact during this phase.
Strategies to prevent weight regain are outlined and practical tips for control
are discussed. Patients must continue to practice
portion control and the behavior changes that they have previously learned. This
phase transitions the patient to the last phase and may last from 5 to 10 weeks.
Maintenance Phase—This
final phase is when
you go back to eating a regular diet. This is a critical phase of the weight
loss program and can be a challenge. We recommend that our patients stay involved
with our program for support, guidance, reinforcement and problem solving
strategies. We work with our patients to develop
a personalized diet to help them maintain their weight. Some patients find it
easier to control their daily caloric intake by continuing to use some of our
meal replacement products, especially early on. However, you must be certain
that the other foods being eaten provides the remainder of the protein,
vitamins, and minerals that are needed every day.
The program at Weight Loss and
Nutrition Center will give you the skills and reinforcement needed to maintain your weight loss for
the rest of your life!
Low Calorie Diet (LCD)—Lose
up to 36 pounds in 12 weeks
Not everyone is qualified for
the MRP due to medical reasons, or who have
less weight to lose. This is a medically supervised, easy to follow program. Patients can expect to lose up to 3
pounds per week.
Maintenance Diet (MD)
This is a personalized diet
designed to help you to maintain your weight once you reach your goal.
